Charlotte Eve

At last, a new woman to rival Tracey Chapman, Tori Amos, Kate Bush and other great female singer-songwriters.

Charlotte Eve, 28, has released her debut album ‘Unembroidered’.

Charlotte plays both piano and guitar. She writes her own music and lyrics, inspired by her life experiences, from her home overlooking the Norfolk Broads. The album Unembroidered is a collection of 11 tracks that blow you away with originality and emotion.

The title of the album describes exactly what this album is – Unembroidered,” said Charlotte. “I have deliberately kept it straightforward and honest.”

“Total strangers have been moved to tears and people say the hairs stand up on the back of their neck. The audience is moved by the honesty of the lyrics and tune and relate it to their own personal experiences.”

Charlotte has had great acclaim from some of the UK’s greatest artists. She has played alongside Coldplay front man Chris Martin who has encouraged her to share her music.

Her influences include fellow Norwich based artist Beth Orton and Martha Wainwright.

Ray Davis (Kinks Fame) identified Charlotte’s song ‘Fish In The Sea’ (track 6) as the best song on the course, saying it was “streets ahead of the other performers with a great structure”. He also adored how the G Major verse moved into a G Minor chorus.

Track 2 on the album ‘The House’ was written when Ray sent Charlotte on an assignment.

“Ray told me to go for a long walk and literally write a song. I came across this deserted old house that was for sale. I sat down, stared at its old brick walls and thought to myself ‘I bet those walls could tell many stories’ and so I wrote The House’.

The track tackles the issue of domestic violence. The lyrics read, “There is a house where a woman lay. He kept on hitting her whatever she would say. You go inside, you hear her cry, you get a shiver up and down your spine.”

Unembroidered was recorded at the Ashwood Studios in Norfolk and produced by Charlotte and studio owner Sotos.

Charlotte said, “I laid the album down over five evenings. Sotos was surprised how quick I was in the studio. He said most bands take a week to record just one song. Unembroidered was on CD within a week!”
